You might be right on dormancy, I need to check that out. It had been in the school greenhouse at least a year or so, someone potted all the big bulbs up separately and I got one. Haven't tried dormancy yet as I wasn't sure which type I was dealing with, but albiflos is likely. It's relatively common in the trades, and matches the growth habit of what I have very well. Ok, dormancy it is. I got it last June, spent the summer on my back porch and is now inside for the winter.

Apparently, if it is an albiflos, it doesn't need a dormancy period and flowers in spring. Might just need a bit of time, maybe it's just focusing on growing leaves for now and will flower for you when the time comes. Maybe you got it just after it finished flowering for the year

Really wish I could post a picture. Good to know about dormancy, I will just give it time. I know that my university has had these in the greenhouse at least a year, and that they've not flowered in that time but not much else. It's one of the few unlabeled specimens we have, part of what caught my interest.

Yeah, H. albiflos does not have a dormancy at all (there are a few species that are evergreen) and the bulb itself is often rather green in color and it is thought that it may actually help with photosynthesis. These guys are easy to grow and I keep mine in partial shade and well watered in summer (less so in winter because it is a hassle to water indoors). All Haemanthus are lovely so I hope it does well for you :o) Dan
