Depending on how deep you planted it can be anywhere from 10 days to 4 weeks. If your garden bed freezes solid before they sprout you might not see them until spring. I planted out mine on Oct. 9-10 and the first ones started popping up Oct. 26 and as of yesterday about 1/2 of 200 or so had sprouted.

Depends on variety also. I planted 10/16 and the Chinese white was virtually all sprouted within a week. I only have a few Siberian red and Bogatyr showing today, and only one out of 60 Spanish Roja (Rocambole) is up. Not one Pyong Vang is sprouted, and last year it didn't really sprout until February! So, just keep annual records to get an idea...

Thank you both so much; you give me hope. I have no idea what exact variety I have, only that they are rocambole hardneck, sourced from local farmers' market. They were planted about 3 inches deep and ground is no where near freezing yet. I had surfed web extensively to find some answer to emergence question and found estimates of one to six weeks. This is my first time growing garlic. (Actually that's not true, I tried once with supermarket garlic years ago and that was a wipeout.) So I don't have a history with which to compare. But I do keep a garden diary, so next year...

Mine often does not sprout until spring and it grows fine and makes nicely sized bulbs. It sounds like you planted yours right and used cloves from a good source. It should be fine...just might require a lot of patience :)

It is not out of hope that garlic does not sprout in fall. Most of my bulbils do not sprout in fall....
