I'm not a fan of introducing non-native plants, especially when our goal is to help a creature that is part of our native landscape. I would rather grow more Asclepias incarnata or syriaca or verticillata. We have enough milkweed options to introduce natives into any situation where Monarchs need them. Just my personal opinion.

Oh, and I would never think to keep them in a pot, since I'm too absent-minded to remember to water pots. It does look like the plant has a wonderful shape. It would look pretty in a big pot.

I actually came across it while searching for some plants to order for my daughter. I want to try and establish a butterfly garden for her in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. This plant requires quite warm year round temps so thought it might be something I could use. It has such interesting leaf markings, I think it would make a lovely pot plant for the patio.

If you want to create a butterfly garden that is truly beneficial to the butterflies, stick with native plants ... the ones they have co-evolved with.
