Finally an update on my kitchen progress!

Here is the previous thread: http://ths.gardenweb.com/discussions/3426566/demolition-has-begun

So, we started almost exactly 4 weeks ago. There have been a few delays that have snowballed a bit so I'm not optimistic that we will finish by our Thanksgiving target date but we'll survive either way. We've been living with the fridge, microwave and dining table in the living room so I will be glad when we get to the point where we can move back in to the 500 sf that are closed off with a zip wall right now! Our contractor is so detail oriented and I swear he remembers every single thing I say to him. His subs have been on time, polite and have done nice work thus far.

Since my last update, all of the rough electrical and plumbing were completed, drywall was repaired and skim coated and the ceiling textured, DH and I primed and painted the entire space, and in the last 2 days flooring has been going in! It seems like more happened during that time but I'm blocking it out!

Below is the laundry/mud room floor (not grouted yet)

Floors installed and sanded. Sample stains put down for us to decide on tonight. You can see where the flooring transitions to the stone in the raised part of the living room. There will be a t-molding transition piece there. We would have loved to get the floors to exactly the same height but even when we went down to the subfloor there's still a small height difference. We had the same issue in our last house in reverse where the kitchen was a bit lower and no one ever tripped so I think it will be fine.

Looking the other way into the dining area. Again, the duct will be replaced with rigid for the hood. Walls are painted Benjamin Moore Silver Lake. Cabinets will go to the ceiling and that's the last wall I painted so I didn't want to bother edging up there

Here are the stains we are debating with the white perimeter cabinet sample and the BM Kendall Charcoal island paint sample. DH likes the top one. Everyone else I've asked likes the bottom, ugh. Would you all like to weigh in here?

Another vote for the top one. It seems to have more depth to me.

I like them both lol. The top one is definitely warmer. I prefer the bottom one though with your particular colors.

I'm partial to redder stain, so another vote for the top. BTW, love the mudroom tile.

DH will love you all. Everyone on my FB mom's group has said the darker one, lol.

FWIW, this was the inspiration pic dh found for the floors and it has very, very similar finishes to our kitchen.

Oooh... The inspiration pic is most helpful. Gotta go with the top one if this is what he is shooting for. Gorgeous!

I like the bottom one. The top is too red for me and I don't like the reddish tone with the gray as much. Maybe there is a third choice? Do you have to choose from these two? Your finishes look like they will be lovely.

Definitely top one. It makes the grey of the island come alive (opposites on the colour wheel). Love the inspiration pic.

Top. Does it relate the best to the fireplace brick and the mudroom tile?

No option on the flooring, but is that flex pipe for your vent hood? Flex is not code compliant for vent hoods. You should use solid pipe.

homepro01 - I mentioned in the OP that I've already discussed that with the GC and it's being replaced. Also, the inspector didn't even mention it when he was here <roll eyes>. FWIW, it's rigid where it meets the ceiling up to the roof. I've been up in the attic to verify that.

I think that the top one would add a nice warmth to the white and gray color scheme.

Excellent Scoutfinch!!!! I prefer the bottom one. I like the slightly matt finish and it blends more with the selections.

I like the top one, but I am partial to reddish wood. The bottom would work best I think if the room is going to have more of a rustic flavor.

love the top one. it's so warm. the bottom one is going to scream 20teens in a few years.

Well, DH came home from work a little while ago and we both stared at them again for a bit. His opinion has not changed at all and he prefers the warmth and depth of the top one. I didn't mention the colors above but the top is Minwax Early American and the bottom is Special Walnut. The EA just looks different (in a good way) on our floors and in our light than it does in the sample piece in the store and in some of the pictures online. I never would have thought to try it but when our flooring guy saw the picture that was his immediate suggestion

I do feel we need some warmth in the room to balance out the gray and white, so I think we will start with the lighter one.

The top one looks like it won't show dirt as much, as well as looking like your example photo ;)

I vote the top one...it seems to have more life and depth. I also think the mid-tone of the top color will show dust much less than the bottom one.

Thanks everyone for the input! This is such a nerve racking choice! I will let you know how it goes today.

Ack, I think I love it! It's still wet in these photos. When I think about the carpet we pulled out of there, this makes me cry tears of joy!

Nice! They're going to look great!

I was going to post my vote for the top color, too, but I see it's too late to make a difference but I'm going to post anyway. =)

I opened this thread in 2 windows so I could look at your tile next to your wood stain choices and think the one you went with looks best with the tile.

Love your wall color! Looking forward to seeing more progress pics and your reveal.
