Need help with Massage room

last modified: 10 years ago

I need help decorating my hubby's massage room. He's a certify
massage therapist and he ask me to help him. How do I make the room
relaxing? I can't hang curtains, re-paint the wall and add candles since its in a
building which I have to deal with the codes. It will look different from the other room if we do that and his boss would not want to spend money on painting the wall either. My only option is to
decorate and make it look nice and cozy.

So far, we move the pix that's already in there and added the floor tree. I want to change the lamps that's in there.

Do you have any suggestions, comments; etc?
Thanks!

I could see a warmer wall color and would be accessorizing more towards a retreat, as it's not feeling inviting - more like a dentist's office...sorry. I think less is more in this case and would remove your pictures, most of the accessories and just go with a bench for their use and a floating shelf for your items. You could add bamboo blinds which will have a warmer feel to them as well.

@Maureen thank you. For some reason my question got deleted. It's in a building, so I have to deal with the building codes. I can't re-paint, hang curtains or add burning candles. Those furnishings are in there, so I have to re-use it. I just brought the floor tree, re-arrange the picture frames. Where should I put the small water feature?

Have you checked with the management to see if you can repaint and hang curtains? This isn't against building codes, but is usually up to the management. If they want your husband to be a good tenant, they will want him to do what is needed to make his business successful. Pottery Barn has wonderful battery-operated candles - you get the glow and feeling without the hazard.

So it's the little things... which this seems, but when I see photo of a runner, it doesn't relax me! Add another of the same greenery art. No to the small amount of branches, or any.

@ Maureen Ok, but where should I put the furniture? There might not be enough space. I moved the floor tree on the other side by the door and will remove the white floor lamp and the branches. What should I put on the table? thanks again.

Nice table lamp has a homey feel. Floor lamp seems modern/ office.

If mine I'd use 1 or the other. If the patterned shade lamp, what about a neutral, soft placemat type thing under...

If you placed the massage table straight up and down, the longer piece of furniture could be placed where chair/side table are or along the back wall and the pictures would look nice above.

Take out fake tree and branches. Find artwork with relaxing colors. Aquas, teals, blues

one large print in place of the three small ones. make that three... loose the mirror, and get art for that wall and the one the oak end table is on. get a large book shelf or something with cubbys and baskets to put thing in and decor....

@ flair lighting where do you think I should put the large book shelf? I don't know if there will be enough space. If I do get one it might be something like from Ikea.

You could put it on any wall and just move the massage table over appropriately, as long as there is room for your husband to work. I would suggest a black bookcase vs white though.

I didn't 'sense' the mirror and I agree no. If someone is stressed, or even not, seems not a time to see yourself in a mirror... time to withdraw...

I have flickering fake candles and I don't like them except for display at my exterior windows - mine anyway flicker too wildly. I'm hoping you have a dimmer instead.. maybe client can choose the comfortable level. I have asked when in the room.

I actually think your room looks quite okay as it is.

If you want to change anything at all then may I suggest that you remove anything that isn't absolutely necessary and have less paintings, keeping the large one and removing the two small ones, or vice versa, remove the large one and keep the two small ones.

Less clutter is more relaxing. The table should be in the center of the room so that he can move around the clients freely. The room should be warm and quiet and if he can find a little music player to play some soft, relaxing music the atmosphere that creates will make it lovely and relaxing for clients.

It's important to have a mirror to fix your hair when you're done, so there should at least be a small mirror for that.
