Changed? I have never heard of anyone actually shortening a couch. I imagine a furniture maker could do it for you, but I bet it would cost more than a new sofa!

Many, many years ago, my parents had a sofa redesigned from a standard sofa to a high back colonial style. My guess is that it is technically possible to do this, but it would be costly.

Sounds like it is time to move on. New home, new furnishings that are appropriate to the new scale. Selecting a sofa and coordinating chair/s are usually the best choices and allow for optimal arrangements.

Thanks for all your comments. I think you're telling me what I knew...but didn't want to admit. I guess I'll start looking at new furniture instead of wishing my old would work better. I'll be back when I have some possibilities so you all can weigh in. I've lurked here the 4-1/2 years it took us to renovate the home and known you folks have lots to offer me. :)
