Today I planted...

4 Japanese Maples that have withstood full sun for at least 5 years:
Aconitifolium
Vitifolium
Kinran
Bonfire (Segai)

I also planted a perennial hibiscus, 'Congo' lilac, a tree peony, and a couple trumpet vines.

So that's 9 plants out of pots and into the ground. I have more planned, then I start to pot up those still in too-small pots with really bad/stupid soil.

I also transplanted two seedlings of a beautiful, red and purple leaved, native maple from the back of my property to the fence line I can see from my windows. I'll have to get pictures of this to try to see what it is. Whatever it is, I plan a bigger shovel Friday to move more towards the front of my land, where I can see them.

I'm trying to create a record of when things go in the ground, when they're potted up, and just in general hold myself accountable. I tell myself my memory is good, but it sure isn't good enough from year to year!

LOl! Not this season, although I'm looking to pick up a few more Autumn Blazes. (Aren't those Freemanii?)

Yes. However many do not like the branching habit of that one - you might like to try another instead.

I think I already have 4 of them. I can't imagine what's not to like about the branching habit. I love their up-right-ed-ness. And color!? Oh, my.

I'm not fond of October Glory. My Pacific Sunset has always been somewhat of a disappointment, and my poor Red Sunset has never had a good start. (Hopefully after discovering this year that it's had almost a decade of borers, it'll begin recovery.)

There are other red maples I'd like to get for future shade. Haven't gone far enough to look, although this is the time of year!

Lots of branches going all over the place, with multiple narrow angles.

In December I got my 'Attaryi' into the ground. When spring hits, it'll be an 'Emmit's Pumpkin' and a 'Tomoyanishiki,' too. I also think I have a place for a 'Japanese Sunrise.'

Just gotta build deer cages for all of these.
One thing after another.
