That offer a bit of glitter and color for the dismal dim November.

It tells me that AV's are really very durable plants. Gloomy November, not enough light, the culture can be improved, they can be repotted. But despite all the issues - they do bloom and make us happy.

The finer skills behind AV cultivating/growing isn't my calling but I do enjoy them. They sit in some prime sun real estate though out the summer that a few succulents would be better. I intend to keep them here for a long time to come for the durable reasons mentioned as they have managed 6 years in the same window area with little to no fuss in areas of added lighting. I think I'm a bit more generous than I need to be in the watering area in the SWC's during the warmer summer months and could filter the longer hours of warmer summer sun rays better or move them to a different location.

I also pinch back and remove a fair amount of foliage on a 4-6 week basis from the minis, not as often removing foliage from the standard sized one for space and better breathing. Thanks for the feed back irina.

    And where is SWC?

My personal pet peeve - I do not like double ceramic pots. I think if you want to do self watering - Oyamas get much better results. You can always hide it in a cachepot if you like ceramics better. The reason - the chance of overwatering. The Oyamas deliver as much water as plant uses. Ceramic double pots deliver water depending on how moch of it you have in outer pot. Which is not the same. Plus Oyamas let air to the roots for breathing. Plus ceramic inserts accumulate salts and get clogged. That's my input. Since your plants seem to be alive and doing OK - it is up to you if you want to tweak your culture or not. Regarding removing bottom leaves - I usually get to do it when I repot - which I try to do every 6 months for standards. At that point they are usually getting pale and do not contribute - plus as you said - it gives plants air and space. I do not grow too many minis and semis - they do need repotting more often - and I slack in this department,

Why I am worried about culture - is that - if they are taking space - they better grow well and bloom. Preferrably all the time or close. I have a big green jade plant on a window - and it makes me happy as is. I am not asking it to bloom.

I think you can attach a piece of semi-transparent plastic to the window in summer to shade your AVs - and chuck it in winter.

My apologies - I am answering the question you didn't ask.
