I have a friend in my neighborhood that grows this rose. It seemed to do well last summer, but I'll ask her specifically about the heat. If I remember correctly, it was short and bushy and seemed to be a vigorous grower. What I remember the most about the rose were its pointed petals. The stripes were very pretty and the bees loved the pollen.

Update: My friend says she has Secret Recipe in a sunny location in her garden (zone 9b). I'll make sure to take some photographs this spring.

It was a horrible day to take photos in my friend's garden, because the sun was too bright and it was windy. But I wanted to show you the mossy buds of Secret Recipe. They are definitely not my thing, but I know some people really like this unique feature.

You are welcome. Breeding is interesting to me, but I'm a little intimidated. I need to read up on it more. I have no idea how to tell of hips are ripe, for example. But the idea of breeding two roses and waiting to see the results is an exciting one. Best wishes with your efforts. :-)
