Brown is too predictable! How about...

Slate or grey (unless of course you're as design-challenged as myself and think slate and dark grey are exactly the same)? I want an area rug that compliments my sofa without being brown. I've been looking at solid colors with a small geo pattern. (Accent color in room is teal).

Anywho...here is my sofa with the pillows "blocked" since the pattern/color might throw you off and will eventually be changed.

Ps. Yes, I'm the same person that has been posting questions about rugs for months!...But after someone thought my space reflected that of a woman twice my age...I about died and decided to venture onto another path.

As always...thank you for taking the time to help and offer your opinion. :)

    What is your question?

    @ Lisad82:

Thank you for your comment. I love my sofa too, but I've had a heck of a time finding a rug that is flattering to both my sofa and accent chairs. I thinks it's because I was too focused on one specific style. I decided to go into a completely different color family.

You're right, definitely better a woman 2x my age than half! Lol!

    Thank you.

Heres the rug I've been eyeing, but I have to order it and it won't be made for 12-16 weeks!!!

    @ ksw12:

I was wondering if slate/charcoal/dark grey would be a good color choice as an area rug instead of brown in regards to my sofa.

    Thanks!

I am designing challenged but to my eye brown tones dont blend with grey tones. For me this is true whether the tones are light or dark.

I do like browns and greys together as long as the undertones match. Grey can be very tricky. I would be hesitant to have something custom made in a grey unless I was darn sure it was going to work with the lighting in the room.

You can pick any kind of rug. However, if you're not sure what you love, how about an inexpensive rug ? What about seagrass? And lambskin? Or black and white (Ikea Stockholm or Lappljung)?

And some velvet turquoise or teal drapes.

I recall someone suggested in your other thread that you get a rug to be placed just under the coffee table. I would start there to see if it filled your need to "ground" the room.

I like the rug and I like your sofa, but I wouldn't put them together.

I love brown and gray together. One of my favorite outfits is a pair of gray wool slacks, white shirt and a medium brown sweater, worn with any scarf that has brown, gray, white and black in it. A surprising number of my scarves have those colors in addition to another more dominant color like blue, yellow, or orange. Never green and never red, though. I don't see any reason why your very neutral sofa shouldn't go with both brown and gray. Adding....I don't really care for that rug, as looking at it would give me a headache!

I am probably 2x your age but, why not pick something that makes you happy than try and chase what ever is hot and popular today (just to have it old in a year or so anyway). It does not have to be your grandmothers rug, but that does not mean it could not have a more lasting style and look nice longer.

So age has a style now? Who knew?

@k9arlene: You're right! And so was the person suggesting a smaller rug for just under the table and the gal suggesting I spend less money now to really determine what I want for future purchases. Since I'm so terribly undecided, I just can not fathom spending $$$ now. Thank you! And thank you to all.
