what kind of bamboo?

We really need something that can screen our neighbors new second story addition. The addition looks right into our living room, bath room and bedroom. We are pretty close to them. We need privacy and yet we need to have some filtered light since the windows in our living room are the only ones that get any light.into our living room. What ever is planted will only get some sun in the afternoon. Thanks

Im not sure of the bamboo type. The client had the landscaping done well after we completed the project. You might be able to show this photo to a nursery and get the info from them.
    Thank You for asking. Rich

Cane is VERY aggressive! I would never use it here in the south!

The bamboo is bambusa oldhamii which is a clumping root as opposed to a runner. It isn't perfect, but this particular type stays relatively close to home. Still, if you install it, you may want to put in a concrete barrier between your house and your neighbor.

thank you everyone for your comments. I'm really open to other options but given the space and the height I don't know what other options make sense.

put the bamboo in containers, and check every spring between march and april for shoots that might escape the container and rip them out of the ground

Bamboo is a fantastic privacy screen, but as chictheresa mentioned above needs to be contained properly or else you will have a maintenance nightmare on your hands. I would recommend at least a 40 mil barrier (60 mil to be safe) see the link below:
    Bamboo Barrier 60 mil

Often times 30 mil is used but many persistent species can actually puncture this thickness of barrier over time.
