If you have more art work like you are showing I would hang it all up like an art museum gallery wall. Lively and lovely room! Looks fun to live in.

Maybe you're trying to utilize the chair rail aspect of the trim, but it isn't working. Hang art with its center point 5' above the floor. Loosen the drapes and let them hang straight. They should appear to be a minimum of twice the window width to look natural. What is the focal point in your room? Do you have a fireplace or any built in shelving? perhaps it is the view through the window. May we see the other walls and furniture please?

Love the colors here. Dess, if you want to use the picture rail, they make hooks and hangers so you can hang your art properly. They work like this:

Your space is so lovely already I would echo others in repositioning the art lower and perhaps to a new spot, getting more art and more substantial drapes. It's really all it needs unless you're looking for a style change.

If you are looking for new ideas for walls then wall tiles is a great option for you. There are so many tile options available namely Athena, Capua/Trabia, Gacela-Impala, etc. You can check out floor & wall system ideas here : http://www.centura.ca/residential/wall-tile/

Maybe including an example of one of our designs will inspire you?
