Should be OK. The dark circle is typical for the dark violet vascular system. You need to stick it in a soil or in the barely moist sphagnum so it have the media to grow roots in.

Brown color - that's rot, purple red - is healthy.

Hope this helps. When I have a long neck violet & cut it back, I remove a couple of rows of leaves to form about a 1" new neck then set it in a container of water where that inch neck sits in the water. After about 2 weeks it has nice water roots. Then after another 2 weeks when the roots are 1/2" long I plant it in soil. I've had success about 5 times doing it this way & no failures to grow. Yours is like a fresh cut stem so it would probably work & in water you get to see the progress to be sure it roots & doesn't rot.

Wonderful, thank you both! Rooting it in water first is something I've only tried with leaves, but I did have good luck with that. I might try it with this one.

Just a quick thought-you do not have to open the bag and air out your plant. Enclose it tightly and only open it if it gets too 'drippy'. I am assuming you are trying to re-root it this way. You can just plunge your neck into a solo cup of soil and then enclose it in the bag. Sometimes plants have trouble making the switch from water to soil.

I don't have much luck lately with water rooting. I am trying the ziploc bagging thing. Seems like it is a little better for me. Good Luck! Let us know how it works out! Rosie
