Your Phalaenopsis looks like it is going to grow a secondary flower spike. Some will flower for years from side branches.

There are many past discussions on whether you should cut the spike off at the base or not.

To cut or not to cut

I agree with Arthur.

I am taking care of some Phals from people who only come to Florida in Winter. They usually leave in April. I take their Phals and promise they will be in bloom in December.

One person had a Phal (no name tag) which she loved. Her husband bought it for her. When they gave me the plant it was in January last year. That Phal had two spikes and was still flowering in June. Beautiful yellow flowers. I debated whether to cut those spikes, but I wanted good flowering for December. I cut both spikes in June (still full of flowers with plenty of buds.)

It is now November. The plant grew new leaves over summer and is now in spike. Two spikes. I'm concerned it won't be flowering when they come in December. I'm pretty sure it won't be. But it should be beautiful in January.

In my opinion, Phals should grow new spikes. You can train them and stake them to get a beautiful spike of blooms. If you let the old spikes rebloom, you wind up with a messy looking plant.

But many people do that. I tend to be a perfectionist about Phal flowers. New spikes look so much better...but to each his own!
