i don't know what the door is to the lower right, but i guess my question is, when you come through that door at the bottom right, are you going to the work area of the kitchen most of the time? then the peninsula would cut things off. but if most of the time you arent going to the work area of the kitchen, in fact the island is in your way and you have to dodge to the right or left to get by.

Yes, this is a question I have asked myself. The reason we have been swaying towards having the seating on the island is because here in France there is the culture of the apéritif and often people come over for a drink before the meal is even made. I thought that this way they could at the island and chat whilst I cook. Something like the images below;

nnigrt - Yes, the door at the bottom right is the main entrance to the space from the hallway. I expect to mostly be going into the work area of the kitchen - or at least to the fridge ;-) With the island I feel like I have more options in terms of the flow of passage?

I see what you mean about having the island, but people can just 'hang' around your island/peninsula anyway if they want to chat while having drinks and nibbles and you'll have the extra cabinets. Since your kitchen isn't massive.

Just food for thought.

Call me obsessed with storage, but if you want seating at the island/peninsula, would it be possible to have cabinets for your tableware in the corner, between or under the windows? They can be upper cabinet depth.

tania613 - We tried this with the kitchen designer and it didn't seem to look right; Everything in the two spaces was orientated in the same direction. However, maybe it is something we need to re-visit.
