One leaf seedling with root rot

I bought my first clivia about a month ago. It seemed healthy but I had read that they need a very well draining mix. I ordered what appeared to be orchid bark from the same company but they came in separate shipments. I kept the clivia in moist paper towel for a few days as i waitem for the mix. Not my best idea. Now it has about a third of the original root left. I cut off bits that seemed soft, but I don't know if I'm being paranoid and thinking that everything is rotting. The leaf seems fine. Any hope for this guy? I have roottone rooting gel on hand if rerooting it might help. I really don't want to lose my first clivia. Please help?
