Plastic Mulch Without Drip Irrigation

last modified: 10 years ago

Hello All! Am wondering if any of you have used plastic mulch without laying drip irrigation. We have an area (aprox. 3 acres) to be planted next spring into (mostly) winter squash however, due to the distance and the steep slope we are unable to irrigate it. I'm debating laying plastic mulch without irrigation, or not laying plastic at all and intercropping a low growing cover crop (ie. Dutch White Clover). I should add that our soil is fairly heavy clay with good moisture retention. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
