Wow, Stuart. I have never seen anyone do root training like this on Adenium obesums. Pretty impressive results. Where did you learn to style the roots?

Stuart I am just starting to experiment with roots too. It will be interesting to see how you do with the Thai Socos and Arabicums. I look forward to watching the progress.

Hello Stuart. In pics 5&6 in your last post above, there appears to be a dark area which looks like a hole/cavity in the centre of the underside of the rootball, can you tell me what this is please as its not quite clear from the picture...thanks.

Gill. It is a hole in the caudex approximately 2 mm deep but it is dry, completely healed. . caused by shrinking from the caudex after cutting and drying an than by growing thicker. in some cases it will disappear.

Love looking at all the photos of the root training techniques. The radial pattern of the spreading roots will look great once they thicken and are eventually exposed for display.

Great results, Stuart! I found a rock in the yard this summer that I thought will look great with an adenium growing over it. I'll need a summer box to do this properly. I'm also undecided whether I'll want a plant spread out so widely that it takes up so much winter real estate. Clearly I should move back to the tropics where I belong.

I'm impressed with root training.

Stuart I just read this post. I am still confused as to what pot to use to obtain the change in roots from pic two to three. I will be getting my new plants soon and I want to beef up the roots. I am not sure of the pot depth or width to do this in. I will eventually bonsai my plants. I just don't know how to make the beefy roots. I have seen other who grow their roots above ground but this makes a big difference to the height of the final plant. It did not seem to take very long for these roots to thicken. I am guessing you use a light. Do you have any suggestions for me, Thanks

Marica. The pot should be wide for the roots to srpead horizontaly. 4 icnh depth is fine. Not to deep, the roots will move only sidewards. When the roots are thick enough you lift the plant by putting an object under the plant. 2 -3 mounts it take to thicken. Yes i am using the tropical sun light LOL.

From whatever little experience I had with adeniums so far (since May 15) one thing is very clear that they love the heat rain and humidity of the tropics and grow best there. They are not very fond of the plains somehow. Even in my country they grow best in places with moist wet climate and not dry climate like in Delhi. Well they are growing here too but not so vigrously maybe because they are further compromised by the pot environment. Well for now they have to make do with it.!!

You don't get the monsoons? Or just the high winds. I am not familiar with zone 10A

In Thailand they choose to dry the cut before planting to stop fungus. I think I will be safe and let it my cuts dry. Just not the days or weeks they do.

I love the art of Adenium's you can do so much with the plant.

The cut are above soil level and i dont wet the cuts thats wy i did it and the roots are thin and easy to bend.

Is the pink and white in the last pic seed grown or grafted. it is about the color I want. Oh well maybe I will find scions a plant

The tripple flower is a grafted plant. All the others are from seeds

One of your pics has very green roots. The other are white. Is that from fert. age or type of plant? I have seen different skin color for the same named plant So I am not sure of the answer

It have to do with the gen from the parents plants i think.

And the white balance from the camera etc..
