cumingiana?

Hi all,

I am just building on my small hoya collection (more of an orchid and bromeliad fan, sorry). So far i have flowered bella and haven't killed a dischorensis.

I know flowers are needed for a positive ID, but I just picked this one up from a local nursery and think it's cumingiana.

It was labeled as 'sanyo', but I can't find any reference to that on google. Maybe just a gimmicky name? (I've planted it in a basket alongside carnosa krinkle)

There was another labeled lindii, but the leaves just looked like regular carnosa.

Thanks,

Adam

It looks like cumnigiana but it could be densifolia. It's sad that some of the Vendors are making up names for sure.

Looks like cummingiana to me. It's one of those kind of messy growers - I could never get it to bloom and finally gave it away. There are plenty of Hoyas I keep that have outstanding leaves but don't bloom for me, and I'll keep one that's kind of a messy grower if it blooms and I like the blooms. But if it's not particularly attractive to me AND won't bloom - pffft, it's GONE!

Apparently it smells like cinnamon, so I'm happy to wait and find out :)

It does look like my cummingiana which I got from David Liddle. Mine has never flowered but apparently it likes more sun than a lot of other Hoyas and grows more like a sprawling shrub than a climbing vine.

    My second plant has peduncles!

I was sure I'd have to wait til next year.

Apparently it might be cumingiana var. Santos.

That was quick! Good job. I'm totally battling my cummingiana and might pull a Denise and give it away. ;)

I did the same thing. It grew miles and miles of very unruly vines but not a single peduncle, never mind a bloom ! Then clipping off that annoying winter growth, ugh ! The cleaning lady got that and my 'busted' Chelsea. If she were still here, she would get my Hindu Rope, too.

Lol Marco, I need a cleaning lady because I have a Chelsea and a Hindu Rope that need to go bye bye too.

    Annoying winter growth?

    Flowers are open!

scent isn't as I'd I'd expected. More like a pine resin than cinnamon. But it was early morning.

    Nice going, Adam !

Pretty, check the smell in evening also, it may change. Either way, happy blooming & enjoy!

I was feeling pretty happy with it untill I saw this beast advertised on gumtree for 50 bucks. Can't really justify it. Just need to be patient.

That happened so quick for you, Adam! Congrats. I'm still struggling with my cummingiana, if you were closer I would send it to you. :)

evening scent is a bit rank actually. Like hot margarine and plastic. Very odd, but I can't stop sniffing it.

    Lol Adam!

Well the blossoms are beautiful!,. One day I will have a picture of blossoms as well!

Is diversifolia another unruly plant with long vines of nothing in the winter? I love how large the leaves are and color, but so sparse. Here is a picture of mine.
