I know nothing about that variety of fig, but I have had a passalong fig for over 25 years. I believe it is a Brown Turkey. I love figs but they are unreliable in my zone 6b. A few years ago I bought two more varieties, Desert King and White Kadota that I grow in 18 gallon pots. When the weather gets really cold--below about 25 usually--we roll them into the unheated greenhouse. If they have been hardened off they can survive 11 degrees for a few hours out of the wind. Last November we had that very cold early freeze and 12 degrees outside with wind caused a large branch on each plant to die back, but I didn't know that until spring when it didn't put out leaves. Already this year both plants have experienced 21 degrees just last week, but DH wrapped them with quilts so we think they are still good. Before long they will go in. Last spring I bought a Chicago Hardy that is supposed to be hardier than most figs. It is also said to have a shorter ripening time so even if the plant dies to the ground, new shoots will come up and ripen figs in the summer. Since figs bear on both old wood and new, most years you can get at least something. I have two young Brown Turkeys that froze to the ground this last winter, put up new sprouts and each plant had close to 70 figs half of which got ripe before the hard freeze.

The figs in pots bore earlier and each plant produced around 50 figs. They are smaller than the Brown Turkeys but sweeter. I don't know if the figs would be bigger if they were in the ground.
