Tony, if you have space to keep it. Pot it up and just let it grow. As you are aware, these will all have their own genetic make up and grow as they are destined to do so. The root system w your cutting early on has produce a very nice wide spread root system. With this tree, the caudex will grow larger as the tree ages. It will not grow as an Arabicum or TS. It does not have the genes to do so.

I think that this tree needs to be allowed to grow. They can just sit when pruned heavily for awhile. Once it has good growth, then just keep it in check and do not prune to base.

I am assuming that this is an obesum or hybrid of?

The obesum left to it's own devices will produce a nice caudex (if genetically destined) and the root system will grow larger. If it where allowed to grow undisturbed (not lifted) the root would continue to become larger. The circumference of the actual trunk (girth) of the tree would enlarge over the years. We raise them, now calling this newly exposed portion of "root" it's caudex.

In cutting off the main tap root or "haddock" root it produced many around the circumference of trunk.

You could try later on when it begins to grow. Potting it up as they do with Thai Soco's, so it is raised on a hill and roots exposed spread out around?

It may be a dwarf variety ....that could be a reason for its slow growth despite large roots. I agree with Rick's comments above...you just need to repot it and let it grow...!

Tony I can see where you would think that this one isn't progressing as quickly as you would like. However it is quite striking and will make a great specimen some day. I think it will just take longer for this particular seedling, some are slower than others.

Thanks Rick, Sinha n Tracy, I have repotted it in a bigger pot. It seems that this particular tree does not grow much after so long. I think this might be a dwarf variety. I will update again in 6 months. Thanks again
