Almost there...Kitchen Update

I've been slowly updating my kitchen as inexpensive materials become available and I am now down to the last detail...Flooring! At this point I've spent approximately $700 and my personal challenge is to keep this project under $1000. I'm just unsure about what look I would like for the floor. It is currently a linoleum floor in shades of brown and grey. At this point I like the idea of a grey washed ceramic plank tile in a herringbone pattern or I could continue with a dark wood plank laminate from the adjoining room. Here are a few pictures of the kitchen to date. I painted out the cupboards and added a reclaimed wood breakfast bar under the window and finished it in a deep wood color. The counters are various tones of grey and the overall kitchen is grey and white. The last picture is a before shot that shows more of the current flooring.

Cork? The actually have slate cork available, it would be cozy on the feet.

Wow. You've done a great job and I think whatever you decide will look great. I think I'll vote for the same flooring in the nearby space for a continuous flow. But, if the transition is a small space it may not be significant. Photo of nearby area?

I love the herringbone idea as well. So many options. This is classic...

Thanks Darzy. Here is a picture of the adjoining room.

The checkered look is classic. I had it in my previous home in the kitchen but painted on the hardwood in a cream and white check.

Bryan you are a rock star! I vote for a checkerboard floor only in grey and white instead of black and white.

I guess I'm the odd ball....I like your current kitchen floor. Looking at picture 2 with the stove/fruit bowl....I think the floor goes great with your "new" kitchen, which looks fabulous by the way! I'm not quite sure what you don't like about it. Is it because it's linoleum? I'd say you're done with your project!

Ahh. So you are the Bryan in the before and after dining area. You are very talented. Love what you've done to your spaces. But you haven't answered me on whether you would marry me! Lol

I think a fresh and light floor would look nice in the kitchen. A ceramic wood floor can create a bit of a heavy look I think. The checkerboard is a great idea, though I would do a low contrast one in a nice suitable neutral instead of black and white. Continuing with the same flooring as the other room is a good choice as well as long as the material is suitable.

Something like this(ignore the color, I believe the material is marmoleum)

I like the idea of continuing the adjacent floor from the DR but how does it look with the wood counter? Do you have any scrap pieces you could try against it?
    Beautiful job by the way!

    Staceyonion -
The reclaimed wood countertop is 100year old framing lumber that I found in the crawl space of my previous Victorian house. The previous owners had demolished the back room of the house to put on an addition and had salvaged the wood. I was excited to find it ;)

    Boomers775 -

I did answer you in the dining room post :) My wife probably wouldn't go for it ;)

    Onetwothre -

In person the current linoleum floor has a lot of brown tones. Much more then I'd like in the kitchen. I will definitely reuse it in our laundry room though.

    Tems -
I agree with you. Neutral is definitely the way to go. With respect to the herringbone idea, I was thinking of something like this...

I definitely like the checkerboard look. I used it in my last kitchen. These are a few pictures before we sold the place.
