Open Concept - Yes or No?

We're building a beautiful modern ranch home on Lake Winnipesaukee in NH and were asked for a few ideas as far as layout of interior. Our immediate suggestion is "open concept". What are your thoughts on this trend? Is it for everyone?

I'm a huge fan of "open concept". Many of the homes that I design have this plan and my clients tend to be closer and happier because of all of the interaction with one another. Hope this helps!

if you can get a good lake view across your living space with open concept, then you should do that.

Thank you for the feedback! I agree, the open concept spans the side and allows for views from each room (kitchen/dining/sitting areas). I love open concept but don't always like to push it if its not what they are used to.

How do you live? I love an open kitchen/living/dining, but I also like a den with a door or a TV room that can be dark. Nice to have that extra room in case you need an office, playroom, TV room or guest room.

Well, that's the dilemma, I love open concept! I just build our home with the whole first floor open. Yet, I have those that ask where I have my "quite" time. I don't have quite time : )

the only problem with open concept is that with fewer walls, furniture placement becomes much more challenging
