I don't know what "look" my dining room is other than ME (g) but since you've already got Hopsack on other walls, is it something you'd entertain doing in the dining room? I have it in my DR and love it! Probably my favorite color in the house.

Is the art work there to stay or do you plan to change it? Would you consider extending the hardwood floors into the dining room?

I can't see your curtains very well in the photos but they look like a pretty rust and latte colored paisley to me, is that correct? If you want to keep the curtains you might go much lighter on your DR walls than hopsack but in the same color family, get rid of the carpet and try to match your other wood floors as closely as possible, and change out the light fixture to a large lantern type, perhaps in antique brass. If you want a rug that would be an easy purchase. I am partial to orientals, and you could find one in the ivories/beige /rust family to complement your curtains and new wall paint. Chair reupholstery....a sturdy solid velvet? Or if you're up for different, a distressed lighter brown leather would be a long wearing change. Leather would provide a counterpoint to the lovely ribbon backed chairs, or perhaps a fabric incorporating rust, Ivory, beige and green would tie the DR with the adjacent hallway?

Another look is to paint your wainscoting and walls above the same color, or close shades of the same color. A poster pointed out on another thread that the stark contrast between light colored paneling below the chair rail and a dark color above looks very dated. It's what I have in my dining room but I have to agree with her!

Don't have a pic to share, but one of my favorite DRs was done in white, soft gray and burgundy....it was really stunning. The walls were the soft gray and the burgundy was used on the fabrics.

I think you need a color inspiration first that will help determine the direction you want to go in. Maybe check out design seeds.
