Needlepoint quandry

I have inherited a wonderful and hideously uncomfortable ~200-year-old Gothic Revival chair When my grandparents took possession of it, the needlepoint cover was worn to the canvas so my grandmother replicated it stitch for stitch. I received it in very decrepit condition so I have had it recovered while I ponder what to do about the needlepoint, which was very carefully removed by the upholsterer. I'd like to recreate the exact pattern again but I am hoping that technology is on my side and there's an easier way to do it than the method ol' Grandma Hill followed which I am sure would overcome me eventually. Are there archives of very old patterns? Any ideas would be appreciated. Here's a photo of the chair before I had it repaired and recovered. Thanks!
