Photos of your space would be helpful. White dining table is quite versatile with blending in different shades of colors in other parts of the house.

I've attached a few pics, and please excuse the mess, but we are working in the kitchen and I had to move all the food in here, and since I still have no china cabinet, I have literally no storage space whatsoever right now.

The walls are yellow. I have some blue accent plates on the wall that I love. Very little room where to put the cabinet, so I'm keeping it small. As I said before, I like a traditional style, and I was going for country french for this room, but now I'm not so sure I can really pull it off.

I've also attached a few cabinets I'm looking at.

Which one do you think will work best and what kind of style will it give to the room (I'm designed challenged, so sometimes the obvious will escape me, like country vs. modern styles)?

This dining room has great potential with a rather impressive chandelier! Mixing wood grain can be tricky. Personally, oak has such a distinct wood grain that I don't think is dressy enough to go with that light. Eclectic is the way to go, with touches of traditional. Don't get too thematic like french country, but add just a touch. I would also suggest going to antique/second hand and consignment stores before I buy a china cabinet new. A reasonably priced cabinet could be found and if you liked the size and style but not the wood grain, paint it! You and your home are a great diversion on the discussion boards. You remind me of myself back in the 90's redoing a 1922 built dutch colonial. Your bathroom turned out just lovely!

@merngirl Those are all great suggestions. I was thinking about going to an antique store for the cabinet, but sometimes I just want to finish this house asap and feel like online shopping is so much faster. Except that in this case, I can't find the right cabinet no matter where I look.

I think you are right, in that oak and my pretty chandelier won't work together. :( And maybe I should paint whatever cabinet I get... but what color? I'm afraid to ask, in case I get 200 suggestions like for my bathroom! ;)

I won't do the french country, I'll just leave the plates and add my botanical prints but that's it. I was going to do toile curtains but I won't.

So cute I remind you of yourself! This is an old house, and needs so much updating, and being my first house you can understand how my head keeps spinning around with all that needs to be done.

And let's not talk about the kitchen. Hubby is working there right now, hopefully he'll finish putting up the ceiling tonight so that we can move forward and I can stop cleaning sanding dust from pretty much everywhere.

Certainly do what your inclinations tell you. Toile curtains may just be the right fit! And certainly a good cabinet can be found online. Just take your time and have fun. Your husband sounds like a great honey-do!
