Scentimental goes own root fast!

Planted a grafted Scentimental rose last fall... it was a $2 special from the big box store. As is standard practice here, graft was buried about 3 inches in dirt. This year, I think I only got two blooms out of the bush. Blooms blow too quickly and I can't smell anything, but it completely defoliated from blackspot. Time to go I said, I planned to dig it up and move it way back to the middle of nowhere and never care for it again.

This was supposed to happen in the spring. Last week weather was 25 F higher than usual, so I decided to start doing some spring tasks. Went to dig up the plant, and saw that so many canes had rooted!

Lots of roots for just one season of growth!

Well, in the process I split the bush into 8 plants, 7 on their own roots and 1 on the original graft, some splits happened as it was dug out, others were done on purpose. Off to the greenhouse for the winter, will plant in a row way out back to have a hedge of it.
