I don't think the canning process will be disrupted as long as you aren't dancing in there or something. You just need to keep an eye on the canner and make sure the process does continue in an uninterrupted manner.

Why do the floors bounce? Are the joists beneath the floorboards warped or something? We had an old house in Ft. Worth that was built in the 1940s and I loved that house and its red oak hardwood flooring, but the floors in one room had a little bounce to them at one point. I believe we reinforced some of the joists under the floorboards to put an end to that....it was over 30 years ago so I don't remember much about doing it though.

Okay. That makes sense. I just wasn't sure. I thought to ask.

It's a combination of the fact that they used particle board instead of plywood for the flooring, some weakened joists, some termite damage and also the foundation on that side of the house breaking off and floating around in the soil (from the quakes). It has a crawl space. It wasn't exactly built proper, but I knew the people who built it. They didn't have much to work with, I'm sure. They did fantastic considering. The couple who lived here before did an outstanding job of making the place look great, but they didn't build it to last. Even the plywood on the roof is 1/8th thick! We have a ton of work ahead of us. Between Bill and I, we know when to get out. We're still hammering away at the other house which is more stable.
