If you go back to 2007, you can find detailed descriptions and photos of my project of growing Salvia apiana from seed. I used similar procedures to grow S. mellifera, S. clevelandii, and even a few S. eremostachya. I'm only familiar with those California salvias (the Audibertia group). I think if you do a search for "Salvia apiana," you should be able to find the thread pretty quickly, even though it's 8 years old.

Most commonly found salvia seeds need the following: light for germination, temperatures of 70 to 85 degrees, a sterile medium (not dirt from your yard), light watering to maintain dampness (not constant saturation), and inspection once or twice a day. Bottom heat and grow lights help. The grow lights need to be on for at least 12 - 14 hours on a timer.

I put them out in soil when things have warmed up nicely. And I use good seeds.I think seed source is important, but maybe , I am a seed snob.
