I think I would recommend Edgecomb grey; it is more if a greige than grey owl, so making it a warmer grey and still keeping it light. BM do sample tins of your colour choice. Hope this helps.

I think it is beautiful the way it is. I would not change the wall color. I would pick a stencil go to Royal Design Stencils and add some interest. I would also using their metallic stencil creams.

Painting the wall the fireplace is on with a cocoa color would make the bookcases and the stone fireplace pop. Keep the other walls neutral and change curtains to cocoa brown as well.

Also, possibly paint the bottom half below the chair rail the same brown to ground the room.

The current color is just very beige and doesn't quite warm up the room. Since we just moved in a few months ago, there's also some patching that needs to be done from where the old owners had window hardware, etc. and they didn't leave us any paint. The bottom part below the chair rail is only 1 shade darker, so that looks weird as well.

I think I like the edgecomb gray that debiemahoney suggested. It's definitely more of a stone/greige color and would warm up the room more. But then what color curtains should we buy? Taupe/Natural? We love these belgian linen curtains from Pottery Barn, but they only come in 4 colors... The ones we have are light gray, which might look bad with a more beige paint color.

Kathi- just saw your comment. Thank you and thanks to everyone here for the advice! We're open to suggestions and are just looking to add some more interest to the room. We'll add a large rustic frame to the wall above the chair as well since it looks pretty barren. We have some beautiful photos from vacations at national parks out west.

I also think it looks nice right now. However, I'm a big fan of Edgecomb Gray and think you should test it out. For curtains, maybe a soft white such as in this photo (with Edgecomb Gray walls).

koffsie, another nice choice to test for the walls might be BM's Winds Breath. It's another nice warm-ish greige, and a bit lighter than Edgecomb Gray....

I totally agree that your room looks just the way you described wanting it to look.

Lower the picture over the sofa so its top isn't even with the door frame. Try 5 inches over the top of the sofa.

I also like your room as is. My only suggestion is to change out the mirror above the fireplace as it seems to be reflecting your ceiling fan. I would move it to above the chair so it would reflect your window.
