What a great picture of this icky mushroom! It shows it in all of its 'glory'; your image almost has smellovision! I agree that it's Clathrus columnatus.

Wow! I don't think I've ever seen anything like it! You must be in mid-to-south Alabama?

Outside, stinkhorns are found anywhere in Alabama...north to south, where there is a source of dead wood of some kind for it to feed on. They are quite common in our urban and suburban gardens because of our use of wood chips.

I'll have to go into the woods and look more closely for these things then. Thanks!
