African violet/leaf exchange- plantlet exchange.. 2016/APRIL

I haven't hosted one of these in awhile (AV exchange for Garden web/Houzz).. So- I'm ready again to spread the 'share' part/ joy of AV's. I'll add 25 different MIXED leaves, some might be plantlets, leaves- whatever I have ready at the time when I prepare the box. This is an APRIL- project. And yes, I know it's early.. So, hopefully we get a LOT to participate. I live in Chicago, so this won't happen any earlier- April is about the earliest. I just hate to see no RR's/excitement happening here anymore. I previously started MANY of the RR's. Now, I see- none. ;( So- let's plan a BIG, huge- box of leaves, plantlets all NAMED for Spring! I'll start it, coordinate it- and keep the AV trading part going! You can pick as little or as much as you want from the box! You could exchange ALL of it, if you want- or just a few, it's up to you.. Just make sure your plants are healthy, and named- and 25 DIFFERENT varieties are in the box at all times, so others have a really GOOD choice of varieties! Basically it! You can start leaves now- for plantlets to add OR you can even add LEAVES that have plantlets on them. The choice of what you add is yours, so it's endless.. Even smaller starter plants can be added if you need extra space on your shelves and your growing multiple varieties of a certain type. Priority shipping is a must- with free delivery confirmation so we can track packages at all times. :) Send me your names/address now- or wait.. Just start getting ready because we are going to have a BIG round robin/AV- box going around in the Spring!!

Thanks Debbya. That's how I got starter leaves of most all I have last April. I think it's a Blessing to share & reap at the same time. I'll send my address as a private message today.

We need more to make this work.. I'll update the addresses received tonight. I didn't go through my personal PM's yet (I was waiting for more to join). Please join us in the FUN- there is nothing like a TRUE ROUND robin box, filled with plantlets- plants, leaves, all named to choose from/add to! You get to TRY new varieties, yet find homes for your extras and clear up some shelf space! :)

I just have a few named varieties right now but would love to participate. By April I should have some nice-sized leaves.

I'm going to put this on hold--- until APRIL. Let's see if more are interested. If not.. I'll let it go...

A small sad observance.. Garden web swaps USED to be the best. Looks like NO interest now.. I can't hold a swap with 3 people.. sorry..... Let's see though.. April is trading time. So, I'll check back then- and hopefully more have joined. I'll gladly start the box. But, I need at least 6 people....

Hope there will be more interest later as I really want to join in.

Perhaps a mention on the main discussion board will create more interest. I'm not certain how many growers check out this exchange page.

Terrilou is correct - I for one don't come to this separate forum often and am just now seeing this thread for the first time. I'd be glad to join if we can get enough people. Deb, I posted a link over at the main AV forum and I hope it generates more interest!

Hi, Deb, Thanks for starting this. If you need another person, I will participate. But maybe less than 25 sets of leaves. There are a few new people on GW who want to get collections started so maybe they will see this. People I sent leaves to last year said they were very slow to propagate so that was one reason why I was not sure If I should join. I am fertilizing the plants more often now. So maybe by April they will be more vigorous. Another question I have is that it seems necessary to have two of a variety. One for leaves and one for display. If I remove a leaf from a growing area, a sucker might form in the spot, ruining the symmetry. I will see what I have doubles of in April or put down leaves now. Joanne

Still trying to make this work.. I know there are several AV people/MANY out there, that still collect and LOVE to trade. Let me know- your interested! :)

Again, checking to see interest.. :) I know how to start a RR box really well, LOL! Join in on the fun! :)

I am in two other RRs, but will join this one too if you need more people. It was very hard to keep up with where the box was last winter, and I had said that it was my last RR on Gardenweb because it was too hard to follow the postings. But I'll try again.

Checking in here too.. so curious to see if there was any interest in a swap. I've been super busy combined- with unpredictable weather, it's dropping in the 30's again tonight- May 4th! Most of you are from the facebook RR- anyway. :) So, I'll see you over there... If things lighten up for me, I'll do a RR in the Fall. I'm kind of overloaded right now with boxes/trades, running swaps. You have to plan the swap according to the weather, and if you start too soon your going to be replacing boxes/mushy leaves. Which isn't fun. I've already done so- twice. And replacing the box contents (usually 25) to start- is a lot when you do a lot of trades. Sometimes by the end of Fall, I have new leaves down with babies, but my collection of parent/original plants looks awful from being plucked too much/trading too much! People don't realize that- with 2 boxes, that's 50 leaves/50 varieties.. Still, doing postage for boxes of violets is the best way to trade. Ebay is also good if your trying to expand your collection quick. I've ordered MANY times leaves from there, just remember to isolate. Isolate- the stuff from boxes too, as a precaution. ANYTHING new.. Bagging new stuff too helps isolate if your growing area isn't huge. Just open the bag if you see moisture buildup. See you in the Fall, if things settle down for me. I still love this forum too. It's sad to see it- not the way it once was. I hope violets keep going- and the forum picks up with RR's/trades again. If someone else wants to start a RR- I'll join. Just right now- I can't spare the 25 leaves. I have too many already promised- for the swap boxes.
