It looks very familiar! I think I have one that, too, has bloomed and put out a pup; that pup has bloomed and pupped. If it pups again, the plant will be cross shaped and I may have to divide it. I'm keeping a digital notebook with pics of nearly all my plants (the ones I bought are identified for sure), plus other pics I find on line and information, so I went through that and suggest you may have: T. Balbisiana? T. Pseudobaileyi? A little like a Caput Medusae but without fuzz, or Caput Medusae x Brachycaulos. You can look on line for pictures and descriptions of these. Heck, try:

Unfortunately I don't know "xeric" (unless it means "dry", as in xeriscape or xerographica) or mesic. Your plant is green without many tricombs (sp?) (it even looks a bit like a leek), so it may tolerate more water and humidity. Being an airplant, though, make sure it gets plenty of air circulation. It may prefer shade or only partial sun.

The word mesic is misleading. Its a word I would use describing a rainforest aka humid.

I don't know much about Tillandsias but I can describe the definitions of "mesic" and "xeric".

Both words are adjectives used to describe the environment or habitat.

Mesic = (of an environment or habitat) containing a moderate amount of moisture.

Xeric = (of an environment or habitat) containing little moisture; very dry.

The identity at this point is a crap-shoot, too little to go on. As HD and Splinter point out 'mesic' is not the word of choice here. That word is usually used to describe growing conditions for the tougher Tillandsias in a greenhouse, conditions we can't replicate outside. Xeric refers to the conditions that the 'white scaled' Tillandsias grow in. T. paleacea and T. purpurea grow in the sands of the Peruvian desert where the temperatures are harsh. There are photos from ages ago where it seemed these species stretched for miles along the sands with their growing tips pointed towards the Pacific. Very dry there. T. tectorum, the whitest of them all, spends time in the same areas all the way to mountaintops of the Andes where the UV rays would burn lesser species. The whiteness of the plants is due to the large amount of trichomes (scales) which protect it from the devastating effects of the sun. Hence a perfect example of a plant which has evolved to survive in a xeric habitat.
