The top half, the white part, is painted gypsum wall board (drywall).

The surround is smooth, polished concrete

Is the entire fireplace concrete, or is the top half Sheetrock or some other material?

Thank you for getting back to me so quickly! Now I can ask another question:-). Did you have the concrete portion precast or did a concrete fabricator do it onsite? And.... Was the FPlace insert placed on the foundation slab?

The concrete portion was precast, and the insert was placed up on non-combustible framing.

Love this look as well. Can you please advise the depth of the fireplace? It looks to be about 10 inches but I'm just guessing. I've searched all over Houzz for fireplace designs and this by far is the best! Well done!
