You're welcome, Anne. I'm glad. One of the fun parts is observing your seeds and determining how reliable the "accepted knowledge" is in your conditions with your seeds. I have many species and species hybrid cross seeds and I know some of them require longer cold periods and greater time for germination. I raise Banksiae seeds, which are "supposed" to require two years to germinate. However, I've found a number of them which germinated in as little as four months from planting, meaning less than six months from hip harvesting. I've had Xanthina seeds which were freshly collected, germinate in two to three months with some of the same batch not germinating until the second year. I held my seeds much longer this year before planting as I knew I would be moving. Instead of last Thanksgiving (2014), I planted in early April (2015) and had tremendous germination and growth. They came up fast and furious! I was expecting to begin transplanting from my seedling tables to make room for the 2015 seeds, but I am finding MORE germination in both tables from both modern rose crosses as well as the species types.

The traditional "wisdom" says germination falls off over 70F. Really? How come mine continued germinating well into the high eighties? There are so many mitigating, "correcting errors" which alter the results, I believe the best anyone can do is to report their conditions, what type of seeds they planted and how they responded. There are just too many "absolutes" reported concerning every facet of gardening we've forgotten to tell the plants or allow them to read!
