Possible Apple Tree with odd Apple growth

Is this an apple tree? What is causing apples to grow with leaves down the centre? We have just discovered the tree and it must be around 3 years old. It's around 5m high and covered in the grubs in the second photo.

Definitely not an apple tree, leaves and branches are completely different and those apple looking things don't look good.

Those blobs on the leaves will probably be some kind of gall wasp, layed its eggs in there
