I don't know for sure about the sun issue since that's not a problem where I live ;-) Since Bay is a Mediterranean native I shouldn't think strong sun would trouble it.

However, Bay grows very well here and I am wondering if you are prepared for regular maintenance if you want a hedge. These things make pretty big trees unless kept clipped.

Thanks for the reply. I have read that it will need at least one good trimming a year once it reaches the height and width we want, maybe two. No matter what hedge we get I'd have to keep it trimmed.

Hedge would be along this back wall and a couple feet down the side wall. Small tree along the wall will come out. These are older pics from before we purchased the house and don't show our new fruitless olive. Have to block these houses!

In SoCal, bay laurel is happy in full sun in a coastal environment but would prefer some shade in a more inland location. The combination of high summer heat and full sun could cause some crisping or scorching of the foliage.

Thanks for the comments. I'm now looking at mastic tree grown and shaped as a hedge instead.
