You made comment about hybrid seeds. If you are saving seeds from this years crop, I suggest you don't save hybrid seed. Hybrid mean that the seed was intentionally cross pollinated. If you save the seed you could get momma plant, daddy plant or somewhere in between. To save seed buy open pollinated or heirloom seeds and then save seeds from that crop.

porterinvestments- For vegetables and herbs I'd generally agree that you should save seeds from open pollinated varieties. Although sometimes it's fun to plant seeds that were saved from hybrids or seeds that could have been crossed just to see what you'll get.

However, for flowers it is less important. Even if you don't get an exact copy of the parent plant the flower is still likely to be pretty.

Yes, sorry I should have specified that the seeds I already have or may purchase in the future will also be going into the same file system. So that would be the reason for identifying if it was a hybrid!

I do seed name, year collected, if the seed is pure or not depending on the seed, and germination percentage from viability test.

so for example, tomato seed.... Snow White Cherry Tomato, 2015, bagged stock, 95% test. Or nasturtiums... Alaska Nast, 2014, isolated not bagged stock, no test. Pepper... Fatali pepper, 2016, indoor isolation, 100% test.

Those are very smart and detailed, xian. I imagine they are for sale or exchange, though, rather than your own use? In which case it might be an idea to include the full botanical name since there are an awful lot of Amaranthus.
