Wainscoting dilemma!

We JUST bought a beautiful house that has unfortunately be designed with this wooden wainscoting .. I'm not sure what we would get into if we removed it .. I don't mind the color on the walls but the fireplace and all that wood needs some help and I'm STUMPED! Please help!!

What you have is often called beadboard to help you when searching. This is a great to work with though.

Check out the many wainscoting photos. I would paint the top half a nice ben Moore dove grey and the bottom a super white. Looks nice otherwise. Also, you may want to get a roman shade for the window. A grey fireplace can looks sleek too.

I prefer the look of red walls with white trim. I would paint all the wainscoting white to match the trim, and overstain the fireplace to a dark color, almost black. The dark with the white is very pleasing to the eye.

It depends, what is your style? If it is vintage chic paint the wainscotting white. Traditional casual a medim tan. Masculine modern a black or dark gray. Mission style stain it darker. It can have many different looks depending on your style!

The cheapest is paint: the wainscoting white, the walls in whatever color you want. Right now it just looks overpowering because the colors don't go together.

I saw a blogg where the homeowners put paintable raised wallpaper on the panelling and it was beautiful...No need to fill in the grooves, either........
