I like your fixture. It's similar to the one I have in my bathroom. Are you planning on one over each mirror? I think with the size of your vanity, you need either two or a larger, e.g., 5 lights, version.

I'm also using Hollywood lights, 40 watts each, in my 5-light fixture (which can take up to 100 watts each). Mine is downward facing and the light (incandescent) is nice and bright in my 5x10 bathroom. It's on a dimmer that I never use. While upward facing might be less shadow-creating, I don't think it's going to give you enough task light. I don't think the downward facing necessarily creates harsh shadows.

That will give you lots of light. The nice thing about Hollywood lights is they have no stamp on the end so, if you choose to install them downward facing, you won't see an unsightly stamp.

Can you use sconce lighting on the mirror or next to them? We have had an awful time with shadowing from our downlights above the sinks. We also have two flush mounted ceiling lights to help brighten the bathroom. LED bulbs are great. Not too hot and they now come in a myriad of colors, not just stark white or yellow!

I guess we could put lights beside the mirrors, but I dislike lights at eye level. I think we will face them upwards for more diffuse light. I may also change out our exhaust fan for one with a light if the vanity lights are not enough. I ordered these fixtures!

If you face them up, you may get diffuse light on the wall and ceiling, but you're not going to have good light on you, which is kinda the point of a bathroom.

The point of a bathroom for us is to get clean and use the toilet - not to see ourselves... I think we will have plenty of light in the bathroom for our needs with 6 100W bulbs.
