Houzz/Gardenweb Monitors - Question/Request

Next time the forums are upgraded, please consider making a change so that each time a member clicks on a thread, the thread goes to the first comment not read by that member. Many other forums have this feature, and it would actually allow members more time to explore the forums rather than having to scroll/read until they find the last read post. Thank you.

Not a monitor but here's a hint that someone shared once.......if using a tablet (iPad) if you tap "comment" on the original post you will be taken to the last comment. Then you may have to scroll up to catch up on replies.

    Maddielee thank you!!!!

You can also create a bookmark that will take you to the bottom of any web page on i-gadgets:

    http://anetteiren.com/scroll-bottom-page-down-safari-iphone-ipad/

On a mac you can just press command+down arrow to do the same thing.

You can also use the bookmark feature on each thread already. That's what I use. It's below each comment right next to the like function. Once you like or bookmark a post it turns green. Granted you still have to scroll to find it, but it's not difficult if you click on the comment instead of the subject on the main forum page, which takes you to the last comment, then scroll upward.
The easiest way to get directly to the comment you bookmarked is to go to your profile page under activity, chose bookmarks, then Discussion Comments You've Bookmarked. Click on anyone you want and it will take you to the full discussion and the comment you last read/bookmarked.

    Here are examples.
My profile page showing "Bookmarks" checked. I had to resize my view in order to get to the Discussion Comments to show and for some reason it doesn't show the "Hunter Boots" link in green like it really is.

I clicked on the Hunter Boots bookmark and it took me here. You can see my bookmark at the top.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm always on my laptop, sometimes cell phone. While the bookmark suggestion helps you find, it sure is a lot of steps.

Allison, instead of using the bookmark to the home-decor forum, just bookmark your profile page when it's open to "bookmarks". All you'll have to do is scroll down to the discussions comments and chose the thread you want. To make it even easier, right click to have it open in another tab so you don't have to keep using the bookmark to get back to that page.
It's a lot less steps than doing laundry and you're sitting down, so no real steps involved. You know, let your fingers do the walking. :^D

Seems to me that when I click on the 'Your Houzz' link @ the top right of the page, I get a page of all the recently active posts I have commented on, showing comments that follow mine....

    It's called 'Your Updates'

I don't have that on mine Carol.

Are you on a computer or a mobile device/tablet? Mine is a desktop computer; I don't do much browsing on my phone.

I don't see "your updates" either (mac, safari), but how would that help with a long thread that you're following but haven't posted in?

Carol, I'm on a laptop. Not mac.

On a long thread, I just click the "end" button, but this is for laptop/desktop.

Another button I have not seen.

OH all you techno geeks. I'm trying to absorb all the hints but my head is spinning and my eyes are crossing. I think I'm limited to maddielee'a hint. Hahaha!

Ha ha Delilah. I wouldn't think of mine as techy. I'm far from a geek. I am married to and Mom to two though.

I get email notifications if I reply to a topic showing all the replies after mine. When I click on the notification, it takes me directly to the first reply after I post.

When a topic gets way too long, I click off notifications at the bottom of the topic page.

Go to Your House, click on your user name, and then you'll see Your Updates.

Nope, sorry, mayflowers. It's not there. I see:

    writersblock, click on activity

    last modified: 10 years ago

Then I see this, which is manifestly untrue:

EDIT In any case, this is still way more clicks than either the permanent bottom of page bookmark in iOS, cmd+down on a mac, or End in Windows, so I'm fine with what I'md doing, although it is strange. I seem to be logged in here but logged out after I click Your Houzz.

"On a long thread, I just click the "end" button, but this is for laptop/desktop."

    What end button?

    On a windows keyboard:

Writersblock, that is the page that it takes you to when you click on Preview Your Public Profile. It's the page before that that shows Your Updates. Notice that the page you show doesn't allow you to do anything--you can't edit your profile or check messages. It's just what the public sees when we click on your name in a post. How did you get there? Did you click on your name in the top right corner (Your Houzz> writersblock)?

Did you click on your name in the top right corner (Your Houzz> writersblock)?

Yes, that is what I'm saying. I would have to log in again once I get to that page, which really pushes up the amount of work to do it that way.

If that's the case, I don't see how you can even edit your profile. That entire page is missing. I don't know why you'd need to log in again.

Getting back to what Allison originally requested....I belong to other groups (not even as sophisticated as GW) and clicking a thread takes me to the last post I read.

I can't see it as being that big of a deal for the programmers..

There was a request thread in kitchens that started the day Houzz took over. They made many changes, and even had an updates notice on the main page. After a few weeks they stopped responding to requests and suggestions. My take was that they'd done all they were going to do.

Writersblock, I own a MacBook Air.

    Thank you, 4boys2.

Mayflowers, most websites adjust, update or make changes on a regular basis. Can't hurt to mention. What I am talking about is WAY easier than the suggestions here. You simply click on a thread you want to read and it takes you to the first comment you have not read in that thread.

Allison, what forums do that? It is a great idea, but whenever I have tried to get an admins attention here, but it never happens.
I used to get email notifications, it's still set that way, but I haven't gotten them in months. I wish there was a way to tag an admin.

You submit a request through their FAQs. They did respond when I was having trouble with my account, but I sent one a week ago because I stopped getting emails for likes and comments on my threads. They never responded.

I don't think Houzz is as interested in devoting resources to the GW forum when there's so much else on this website than little old us.

justgottobeme, it's not forums here on GW/Houzz but elsewhere.

    Thank you Mayflowers.
Allison, I figured that's what you meant. I'd just like to check out other forums so thought I'd ask.

It's a forum on ProBoards. I've never searched for a decorating forum there, but there's bound to be some. The ones I am familiar with are personal not company owned.
