Personally, I like a dry iron. I keep a bottle of my homemade Best Press (Vodka) close by and give the fabric a light spray as I iron. It comes out so smooth and wrinkle free. I find the hot steam can stretch the fabric as it is ironed, don't know if its true, just me. I always think about my Vodka Press that if things are going really wrong, it is just there so handy for a couple good swigs. I haven't tried it but have thought about it more than once.

Yes, real Vodka. It works way cheaper than Best Press and does the same job. Google "homemade Best Press" and I think you will find a recipe for it. If I remember correctly, 1 cup Vodka to 2 cups water.

Hi bk and welcome. I prewash and hot dry iron. Haven't found an iron yet that steams and doesn't spit/drip/leak at some point. If I can't get a wrinkle out, I just use a squirt of water from a spray bottle.

Sharon, reminds me of when I was a kid....we had a 'sprinkler bottle'....would shake water droplets on the clothing prior to ironing and roll the garment up...let it sit and iron while still damp. God, I'm old!! (this was before steam irons and after the irons that Momma would lay on the stove top. (She had to stoke that fire ALL the time!). Lucky, I was the last of the girls and never had to iron til we used the sprinkler bottle!

Beth, that exactly what I thought about. By sprinkling them and rolling them up, you got them uniformly damp. Mother had a big plastic bag with a zipper to put the sprinkled clothes in. If you didn't get them ironed in time, you had to put the clothes in the bottom of the refrigerator, or they would "sour".

I tried it a few years ago on a starched cotton dress for my sister. That method really works well.

When I wash my fabric I use steam to get the wrinkles out. I don't starch my fabrics till I am ready to use them. I usually dry press seams, but have been known to steam them, too.

Well, I'm odd man out, I guess. I LOVE steam! I use it all the time. I only starch rarely, depending on the project or if I happen to pre-wash.

I've never heard of the vodka mix. I just started some vanilla and have some vodka left, so I'll try it.

Missouri, let me know how it works. I've never tried Best Press, so I'm just wondering how well the vodka works.
