Using resin or something else to smooth out bumpy mosaic project?

I mosaiced a flat tile that I really like but now wish I had done the indirect method. If I had a flat surface, I could maybe somehow use it as a mousepad. I've never worked with resin, but was thinking if I could somehow pour a layer of resin over it and then something over that like clear contact paper, I could turn it into a mousepad? Has anyone ever done anything like this? If so, do you have any advice on tools, techinques, tutorials?

Do you have any other advice on thoughts on how to turn a bumpy mosaiced tile into a mousepad?
