Gesneriads surviving January weather

And doing pretty well despite the cold:

These are Streptocarpus and mixed African violet hybrid seedlings in community pots. Next problem: finding space for about 250 of them (including a large batch of Sinningia seedlings) once they're large enough for their own individual pots.

Anyone else overcoming winter blahs with new generations of gesneriads?

I have 50-60 strep seedlings coming along and propagating 60 different varieties of streps from leaf.

Hope you sell them before they push you out of the house ;-)). I am already looking at my stands and thinking - March show and sale. 6 weeks left.

It's an appealing idea....I've been browsing the violet barn and thinking about an order soon (weather permitting)...for mainly mini sinningias.

I would aim at the beginning of April...Violet Barn is located in a breathtaking place near Finger lakes - Bristol mountains ski resort...

They have a great selection, new Formosa and Stone hybrids from Taiwan - you need to order soon before they disappear. In compact varieties - look at Isa's Gorgeous. It is something else.

It looks pretty, why is it so gorgeous ? (you said something else...opinions?)

I was originally looking at Ozark Red Lightning (know hybridizer, btw, Hi Dave), KC's Lovely Rose, and HCY's Persephone. However, now I can't find the later two...either they updated catalog or I umm well spaced out ?

The name is Sinningia 'Isa's Gorgeous' - large double, very rich color. Really interesting.

Dave Harris is a good friend, I love his dry sense of humor. David has 'Ozark Red Lightning' - plus he needs our business plus he has some yummy new minis plus he recently updated his website - and it is much easier to navigate.

Yep, I'm trying to line up a time with Dave to visit. Have an outgoing email as we speak even....

It's only 2 hours to Springfield, and I can line it up at such a time as I do some nature photography in extreme north Arkansas on my way (so killing two birds with one drive).

I went to see Dave today and brought home 5 mini-sins (4 are Ozarks, the 5th is one Dave stuck in for free), 5 rhizomes of a red achimenes, an AV (Smooch Me...darn..it's a standard!!!#!!!, hope I have room for those leaves :(), and a pink episcia. The last two are experimental to see if I have stopped killing them.

I hit another nursery in the "area" and also scored two hard to find begonia species, a fern (pushed on me), an abutilon, and a purple ruellia (for outside come spring).

My windowsills are pretty full now (lol).
