very nice blend colourwise.....perhaps your question is more about the pattern in juxtaposition with the fireplace? in this pic, my eyes are drawn to the blinds first ....a bit difficult to tell how the room is balanced colour/patternwise

I think you are going in too many directions w the rug / sofas / wall color. The sofas are neutral enough to work with either but if the paint is staying I would suggest finding a rug that picks up the wall color. And the rug could be fine if you would go w a wall color that is a greyish tone from the rug.

The rug goes well with the sofa but to me it does not go well with the wall color. I do not see how the wall color relates to anything else in the room. I love the blinds.

Pattern in rug should be traditional to mix with brick.i

    Keep the rug!

I think the rug is clashing with the red window shades. Either get a rug that compliments the red in the shades or shades that compliment the rug.

your problem is you have no pillows! if you go by the rule of 3s it takes 3 pieces of a color to make a part. it is not happening. but bring in some pillows that involve your various colors and you will have it made. least expensive of all options.

Are you committed to window treatments and wall color? If so, I think the rug should go back - it clashes with both, at least on my monitor. Your home looks traditional - does this appeal to you? http://www.potterybarn.com/products/franklin-rug/?pkey=call-rugs&&call-rugs

Imo, the rug goes with the sofas but not with the fireplace or window treatment...so, either paint the fireplace and change the curtain or change the rug...one of the soft vintage look rugs would go well

A rug should tie a room together and as mentioned above, it doesn't work with any colors in your room. If you like this pattern, maybe use the same color as your curtains and add some great pillows. Since it looks like you would like to modernize a bit due to your rug choice, if I could suggest removing the vine from the top of the bookcase and re-accessorize the shelving with less books, plus a few decorative items.

I agree that the rug has a different sensibility than the rest of the room. If you love it, you may want to modernize the room by changing decor (blinds, wall color, etc.) to a more contemporary look to blend with the rug. On the other hand, if you love the room and just want to know if the rug fits in it, I would say no.

I would paint bookcase and mantel a bright white to match the windows to bring more of the "contemporary" into to mix plus get some pillows . Would love to see more of you room .

Keep the rug for sure! Add grey, red and white colour pattern cushions (maybe in a floral water colour pattern) to the couch to tie in your window coverings which I also like. Paint your mantle grey to match the rug or white to match your window trim and change out your wooden side tables. Your rug adds pattern and a fresh modernization to the room both of which are a welcome addition.
