I was able to re arrange my tent after I repotted my dorstenias and some adeniums. I still have some yearling arabicums waiting to be potted, hopefully they will start putting out some new growth soon. I also have two other dorstenias that I need to repot real soon.

I put the fabric pots up on short crates to allow the water to flow out.

The last pic is another batch of seedlings in an aerogarden. This batch I didn't chop the tops on...

They all look terrific, Bob. Nice ramification on those seedlings you had pinched. I would say your trial was successful. I see the differences in the leaf sizes that you were talking about the other day. I'm pretty sure it is due to the Mars Hydro light having a higher level of intensity than the lights in the Aerogarden. Mine that are getting the most direct light also have the smaller size leaves. Diversity is good!

I had one of my seedlings, I accidentally scratched the caudex, thinking I was wiping something off with my fingernail. turned out it was the skin of the caudex.. this happened a few weeks ago. I did not originally pinch this one like the rest in this batch. yesterday I decided to try something new. I ended up pinching the top and cutting all but the last two leaves. this plant was also suffering from chlorosis more so than any of my others.
Tracy I know you suggested I should wait til it was older but I thought because it's not a perfect specimen and would probably make it to the trash eventually if the scar on the caudex doesn't grow and blend better with the rest of it. I am going to see what happens.

I ended up topping on of my plumeria's when it was 12 inches tall. I was told it would die. now it is growing better than my other two plumerias. just brought this up to say sometimes things don't go so bad. I'm curious to see what will happen. it is about to put out branches at each node. I hope after it recovers from the shock of its new hair cut the new branch buds will burst open.

I've done this accidentally, made a real nasty scar with my nails on my big Dino King, right on her beautiful roots. The skin is quite sensitive to fingernails. This scar should heal up, it will add character to the plant.

Never be afraid to experiment based upon my advice because I pretty new at this too.

thanks joe, lots of trial and error, I need to start feeding my seedlings better they are about a month old and the leaves are so small, 6 true leaves not including the cotyledons. these seedlings are PNW mixed in this batch are some YSB and some brazilians. I am going to post some of the desert night forks after this post. they're is also two of my dorstenias in the back....

these are some desert night forks I have a couple more in my aerogarden too. I also have about 6 or 7 brazilians that are only about 2 weeks old. they're looking really good for their age. the last picture are two of my black pearls that I am focusing on as shown pieces hopefully..

Bob I'm new to adeniums and I was wondering what cutting the leaves like that does and what it's called? (The technique used in the adenium with the scar) thank you

if you pull the leaves all the way off it can leave a scar that can take time to heal. by cutting the leave it let's it die off with out bad scaring at the nodes. Also some people that do this to their arabicums because they say it helps the caudex swell. I also did it to help promote branching. which can also be done by topping. I also did that to this plant. hope this helps you out.

In this case it's just pinching or cutting off the apical bud/branch or the top of the plant at a node, it promotes branching and if you do it young the scars heal over pretty good on adeniums. Not all plants respond well to topping, a shrub or plant like a fruit tree where selective pruning would be a better choice as far as pruning goes. I love questions and I am pretty new to growing adeniums but I'm happy to share what I find out, that's why I like these forums so much.

I finally ordered some seeds from KO! My life is a mess right now, I just switched from Android to iOS on my cell devices and I switched from Apple to Windows on my desk top. It was quite the task getting my payment over to Mr. Ko. He's been understanding, but I am sure he is sick of me. I finally have Obesum seeds coming though. several Yellows and a red. Also some white Minis, I may of over ordered. Ill let everyone know if I have some extras to give out when they get here, I have to go and throw out some runts to make room in my tent!

Also I have seeds coming from Kesorn. What a great person! I chatted with him bit via email. I showed him two of my hydroponic seedlings and he really thought that was cool, he said he's only seen that done with food. He confirmed that the Black Pearl seedlings I have are Arabicum Socotranum crosses, then he told me about how several of the sellers in Thailand have different names for them but they are the same. I am assuming black pearl, and black knight are the same. and probably some other black ones as well. At least that's what I was lead to believe with the conversation we had.

I also have seeds coming from another source in Australia. Some multiflorums.. I am hoping I get good germination on those I never used a source out side of Thailand except for Ko and I haven't received his seeds yet. I did however buy a small amount of seeds from Florida when I first started, it was almost a dollar a seed a nothing germinated. It turned out they were just seeds that were bought in Thailand who knows when, and they weren't even from one of the reputable ebay seed dealers. I will never do that again.

You have some very nice plants, Bob. I've now started 'regular' seeds, and thanks to some kind members here, what I consider to be 'high quality' seeds. Yours appear to either be of the 'hq' variety, or you're doing something very right!

Thanks they are seeds from adeniumcenter and some from Ko that Tracy was nice enough to gift me.
I actually just lost a few from the aerogarden. I tried to transfer out of the aerogarden I didn't want to leave them in the peat plug that aerogarden starts them in so I cut the roots and it really messed them up. I have two really nice ones that I fear loosing, they are still in the aerogarden. My seedlings I started in soil transferred over way better to the ebb flow set up I'm working on. I didn't have to touch their roots when I transferred them into the hydro mix. I am going to have to re think how I do the aero garden seeds, I have some I am going to try and take out of the plugs with as little damage as possible by cutting the peat around the roots carefully then I am going to try and dust them with rooting powder and give them 24 hours before I put them into wet media. I knew I was going to run into some challenges it's a lot of trial and error for me right now
6Into wet media. I will probably switch to the aerogarden ebb flow tray which is designed for plants with lower water needs rather then the plugs I used originally

Hi Bob, they are looking terrific! Sorry to hear about the root hacking. Hope they pull through. You have really caught the seed bug! Look at you ordering seeds. You remind me of myself. I am daydreaming of Spring!

Perhaps I have missed something. Are you trying to grow them completely by way of Hydroponics?

I am trying to go from one type of hydro (deep water culture) to another (Ebb Flow). The aerogarden is a deep water culture and you start your seeds in a peat sponge basically. Ebb flow you just flood the net pots when they need water. I actually re potted my seedlings into a mix with some smaller particles. My bigger plants love the media I put them in but it was a little to dry for my seedlings so I mixed some gravel with some soil and I used the chunky media on the bottom of the net pots then I top dressed it with slow release nutrients and aquarium gravel til their roots can establish better I made the change yesterday. So I should be able to see how the plants like it in about a week. I won't have to flood them as often now so they should like it a little better. I was happy to see the new root growth when I knocked the seedlings out of their chunky mix into the new mix. I also re potted some Dorstenia seedlings along with them.
