    I'm doing the same thing on my ceiling. Although it is a flat ceiling. I'm using boxcar siding. Wood, not MDF. Cover with two coats of oil base primer prior to cutting. Then paint with a good high grade paint. Sherwin-Williams Duration or Emerald.
