Jay, How long do you find that your deter. varieties are productive? When do you pull your first planting to get the high tunnel ready for winter crops?

Wow, those are some good looking tomato plants! Looks like they grow a bit bigger in a hoop versus outside? What is your row spacing?

The determinate varieties remain fairly productive all summer. If you get several weeks of cooler weather in early July, we will have a really big flush of tomatoes at the end of August/early September. We will continue to pick tomatoes out of the earliest planting ( mid March) from June until we tear them out on Labor Day weekend (give or take). We will harvest almost everything remaining and sell them as green tomatoes. The FL 91's act more like indeterminates. They do get bigger in the high tunnels. Just for reference, the second picture is of two beds of Polbig, the posts started off 4 feet tall and are driven in 10-12 inches.

My tomatoes are planted in 3 foot wide plastic and are planted in two rows per bed. They are staggered 2 feet apart in the row, so it zig-zags with a tomato ever foot.

JRSlick - Do you start seeds in the tunnels in March, or do you transplant from seeds started earlier?

That's some IMPRESSIVE tomatoes.

We transplant seedlings into the high tunnel. We usually get seeds start at the end of January and transplant mid March. We start all our seeds in the basement and move them out to the tunnel as the weather allows.

I have a similar high tunnel to jrslick (because I copied his design) and I also plant determinates. I don't grow hybrids, though. I have spent the past three years selecting heirloom/OP varieties that perform as well as hybrids. Taxi is my yellow. Finding a red has been difficult. Former commercial varieties from the former USSR have been my best. I have one right now that came to me in a swap labelled "Titan Red." I believe it's from the Ukraine. It's my best det red, hybrid production and heirloom flavor.

I'm still looking for a good orange det. I have several new ones to try next spring. I think all of them are Russian in origin.
