Hello all! I'm new here, saw this thread and had to comment my experience. I found a hummer in distress puffed out like a cotton ball in the middle of the day on one of my feeders when w

e were stationed in Virginia. He had been the most territorial male ruby out of them all and his bill was a little crooked from fighting I assume. I walked up to him picked him up and he didnt move. I had a small bird cage and a syringe luckily so I fixed him up some sugar water. His tounge flickered in a few times but he didn't revive. So knowing hummers need protein, I cracked an egg yolk in with the sugar water and shook it up and fed it to him. His little tongue gobbled the food up and almost immediately he started buzzing around inside the cage. I brought him outside, released him and from then on fixed him his own feeder with egg yolk sugar water that I changed 3+ imes a day until they migrated back down south. He was the fattest hummer of them all when he finally flew south. If you happen to need this info please keep in mind the egg yolk will go bad quickly and must be cleaned and changed numerous times every single day! I truly hope the little hummer is somewhere warm with his girlfriends :)
