Spring Swap Date

Now that ECMGA has set a date for its spring sale, we can discuss a date for our swap, to be held on the grounds of the ECMGA in Gadsden. May 7 would be the first available date - does anyone have a problem with that date? Let me know, I will start paving the way administratively but I do not know of any problems - everyone was delighted with the fall swap.

Hi all,

I'm working on a flyer to post locally and on the web. I'm asking for your input/critique/suggestions.

Also, are we going to have dinner on the ground, meet at a restaurant afterward, or ??? I LOVED the Fall 2015 swap at the ECEO, but missed the option we had at Oak Mtn. of hanging around the pavilion after lunch. That was a nice, peaceful, comfortable time that we could spend with friends we only see once or twice a year. That's the one thing I missed last Fall (and maybe that's just me).

What are some of y'alls ideas? What can entice people to participate? Favorite local restaurants? Any nearby nurseries of interest? Flea markets? Does a trip to Noccolula Falls interest anyone (esp. outside the Gadsden area?). Just asking. It's time ;-D

Thanks for the info Kenneth, and for getting the plant swap rolling. Personally, May 7th is "Mother's Day weekend" and could present a conflict for me (although, with apologies to my mother, the swap takes precedence!).

If I had a preference it would be for May 14th but, as stated above, I will gladly accommodate either to be with my "plant swap" friends.

Iris unguicularis ("Winter Iris"). I received this beauty from Susan a couple of years ago, and it has been blooming non-stop since early December. Really?! An iris that blooms in the middle of Winter?! Yep.

My son is graduating from Auburn the weekend of the7th so I would prefer the 14th too. Nelson, I'm glad you are enjoying the I. unguicularis. I have a non-hardy irid neomarcia longifolia that is putting out pretty yellow flowers in my garage. It blooms year round. Would you like a start of it? Susan

You know that Alice and I will do what we can to enhance the experience. To comment on some of the things you mentioned - there is a huge flea market at Collinsville, 25 miles north, but it will be winding down about the time the plant swap does. I do not particularly highly recommend any local nursery, but there is 411 and Pack's nurseries that I can direct you to.

I will update the thread about Kenneth's situation (not good) later this morning when I hear from his sister. In the meantime, suffice it to say that I will be coordinating the swap from the Master Gardener end. My husband had his hip replaced in January, then as soon as he was mobile enough to look after me, I had mine replaced. It's been 3 weeks now and I've graduated from walker to cane, but I'm way out of the loop on real life. I will start a new, more current thread about the swap, so check there for further information and feel free to let me know if I've missed anything. Alice

I case you haven't seen my latest post, Kenneth lost his battle with the multiple health problems he faced. He died peacefully late yesterday afternoon.

The plant swap will go on a week from tomorrow (Saturday, 5-14) as he had planned. Hope to see you then. Alice
